Bob Ryan - Ryan Commodity Insights

Ryan Commodity Insights (RCi) is a global research and advisory service, providing actionable intelligence for investors, portfolio managers, commodity producers and consumers. RCi’s focus is the geoeconomics of energy security and the energy transition. The evolution of these competing goals and their impact on commodity prices (particularly, oil, gas, carbon and base metals), inflation, financial markets, and the military-industrial complex, are of primary concern.

RCi was founded by veteran commodities trader, researcher, and strategic risk advisor, Robert “Bob” Ryan. He began his career in commodities as a roughneck and derrick hand on natural gas rigs in northwest Colorado before moving on to Wall Street. At the CME Group’s NY Mercantile Exchange, he developed the crude oil options and risk-management models that support its clearinghouse. From there, he spent close to two decades operating in physical and derivatives trading markets at Clarendon Ltd., the predecessor to Glencore; Bankers Trust; J. Aron & Co., and Deutsche Bank. This was followed by a stint at the U.S. DOE’s Energy Information Agency, where he built the models used by the EIA to estimate energy price risk.  He then launched a boutique advisory in Washington, DC, from which he was recruited into BCA Research, where he ran the firm’s Commodity & Energy service for 10 years.

As the research director and founder of Ryan Commodity Insights (RCi), Ryan uses this wealth of experience to anticipate and gird for the increasingly complex risks confronted by investors, risk managers, C-suite officers and Boards operating in the energy markets.

Ryan is an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as an Arabic linguist/cryptologic technician.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Defense Language Institute at the Presidio of Monterey, Calif.; Pennsylvania State University; and Birkbeck, University of London.
